I'm a working woman now

That's right people! I. Got. A job!!! =D

My first real job ever starts tomorrow and I am so very excited! I will start off as a hostess at a pizzeria down the road called "The Mellow Mushroom." How awesome is that? I can't wait. I was so lucky to have the exact hours available that they were looking for. They even hired me with no experience so I think that must mean I finally figured out how to be outgoing and quirky to an employer I've never met before.

My first shift is tomorrow night (from 5-11) so it should be exciting...but not too much, since he said it's not usually too busy on Labor Day for some reason.

And I'm now realizing I only have one shirt appropriate for this job...Dang it. Anyone have any FSU or Classic Rock-band related t-shirts they'd like to donate?

WHEE! MONEY! =D

First Days In Town: Now With Analogies!

I’ve come up with a brilliant analogy for this experience.

It’s like being up in Maine after going on a strenuous hike. Give me a second here, I promise it will make sense. Once it’s all said and done, the only thing on my mind is jumping in the lake back at my Aunt and Uncle’s house. Of course, the drive there is always just long enough to catch a nap and cool down.

By the time I get to the lake…I think to myself, “Well why don’t I just take a shower and stay inside.” But that would be taking the easy way out. My other option is to jump in the lake that usually ends up being surprisingly cold.

But the thing about the lake is that no matter how cold it is and terrifying to even think of that chill, it feels amazing once you get used to it.

So, I have decided to jump in the lake. Do you follow? I could have just stayed home and not challenged myself. Instead I’m going on an adventure that at first, no doubt, feels terrifying.

BUT! I had my first day of classes today! (...that text above was written a little bit before I had the internet required to post it.) It was not so bad actually. The anticipation for class was worse than the class itself mostly. Other than meeting a few crazies (what McNally doesn't?) it was perfectly fine. I think I should be able to blow this pop-sickle stick (is that the saying?) in no time =]

Fay Hates Florida

So here I am, planning on enjoying my last three days in Melbourne, when a tropical storm decides to make a visit. I wasn't planning on reminiscing with hurricanes before I left. I was actually hoping to see friends instead. Maybe pull one last all-nighter watching movies and remembering how crappy middle school and high school were.

But no, instead I'm stuck in the house surrounded by water and bored out of my mind. Hanging out with anyone is no longer an option because of the fact that most of our roads are now canals. So now all I can really do is pack...and I should pack everything in garbage bags, because it looks like this storm is going to follow me to Tallahassee.

So, thanks Melbourne and goodbye. The past six years have been okay, and this last week has just been sort of stupid.

Stay tuned for when I finally get to Tally and finally miss this boring town for once, or at least the people for sure.
